Our Church Can Be Your Home

pgh_street_sign.jpg Welcome to the Pittsburgh District
Church of the Nazarene

We are a district with a one hundred year old past and a missional future. The 91 active congregations, ReStart churches and NewStart church plants are reaching out to over 100,000 people every week in Western Pennsylvania. Whether you live in one of our cities, our numerous small towns or in the rural countryside, we probably have a congregation of people near you...a congregation that will welcome you, love you, help you connect with God and offer you the opportunity to serve Him.

We hope you find everything you need as you visit our website. Perhaps you, too, will find out that "Our Church Can Be Your Home."

PITTSBURGH DISTRICT ELECTS NEW SUPERINTENDENT

bret_and_terri_metcalfe_320x200.jpgRev. J. Bret Metcalfe was elected to the office of District Superintendent on the eighth ballot at the 103rd Pittsburgh District assembly held at Butler, Pennsylvania, at the Mount Chestnut Nazarene Center. Rev. Metcalfe's election came after Dr. Stephen Dillman resigned in June to accept the position of Director of Church Relations for Eastern Nazarene College.

Rev. Metcalfe has served on the Pittsburgh District since 1996 when he came to pastor the Greenville Lifeway Church of the Nazarene in Greenville, PA. In 2001, the Ebensburg Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene called Rev. Metcalfe to be their pastor, where he serves until he takes up the duties of the superintendent on September 1.

Each of Rev. Metcalfe's pastoral assignments were marked with significant growth and numerous awards. He has served as the district secretary for over eleven years and also served on the District Advisory Board of the Pittsburgh District and other boards and committees.

Rev. Metcalfe is married to Terri, who also serves in various capacities of district ministry. She has been the District NYI treasurer for several years and most recently serves as a lay member of the District Advisory Board.

When the election was announced, the delegates responded with spontaneous applause and a standing ovation. Rev. Metcalfe and Terri received flowers in honor of their election. Rev. Metcalfe responded to the election with the comment that "I accept on one condition that you not stop praying for me." He spoke of the change that he sensed coming in his life but said that this had come before he knew Dr. Dillman intended to resign. He said that he and Terri were praying and waiting on the Lord to reveal His will.

Dr. David Graves, General Superintendent in jurisdiction, commented on the "rightness" of the delegate's selection and expressed a positive opinion regarding the future of our district under the leadership of Rev. Metcalfe.

We welcome Rev. Bret and Terri Metcalfe as our new district superintendent!
